Retention discount to stay with your pharmacy: what to check

Offered a retention discount to stay? Check how long the saving lasts, any new commitment and the repeat price, then compare a new-customer price.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Before you accept a retention discount to stay with a pharmacy, ask which orders the discount covers. Ask whether accepting changes your commitment and what price follows. Then compare the offer with a first-order price at a pharmacy you have not used. Do not assume every pharmacy will offer a retention discount.

How to ask your pharmacy for a better price

If your repeat price went up after an introductory offer, ask the pharmacy for any discount or different plan you qualify for. Say you are comparing next-order costs. You do not need to invent a rival quote or threaten to cancel.

Copy this message: “My next total is £X. I have a quote of £Y for the same order. Can you confirm my best price, how long the price lasts and whether accepting changes my plan or cancellation terms?” Leave health details out of a message about price.

Five retention offer terms to get in writing

  • The full amount you pay, including compulsory charges.
  • Which orders the discount covers.
  • The price afterwards, or a clear statement the price is not fixed yet.
  • Any new minimum term, renewal or condition to pay the discount back.
  • Whether accepting cancels a cancellation you already asked for.

A clear reply lets you compare without guessing. If you get an offer while cancelling, save the wording before you accept. A lower next bill does not always mean you can leave straight afterwards.

Retention offer or switch: a worked example

WORKED EXAMPLE · INVENTED FIGURES

A retention offer cuts a £200 quote to £150 for one order. The price then goes back to £200. Another suitable pharmacy charges £170 for each matching order. Over two orders, staying costs £350 and moving costs £340, before any exit costs. For the next order alone, staying is £20 cheaper. The answer depends on the period and terms you look at.

If the retention offer ties you in for more than those two orders, add up every required payment. If you can leave freely, work out that option too. Allow time for the new consultation so you have no gap in treatment.

A retention offer is one price from a pharmacy you already use. You are a new customer at every pharmacy you have not used. Compare the offer with their first-order prices, or read how to switch pharmacy every month.

Value the service you would lose by switching

An existing relationship with a prescriber, quick replies or support you use can matter. Work out what you would lose and whether the new pharmacy offers the same. Then decide whether the difference is worth paying for. Some extra cost is justified and some is not.

A price match may not cover every voucher or referral deal. Ask which rival, product, time period and proof count before you rely on a refund.

Stay or leave: complete one decision first

If you stay, check the next scheduled charge and any new agreement. If you leave, follow the cancellation steps and get written proof of the final order and payment. A chat about leaving is not a finished cancellation.

The Numan, Voy and Juniper discount guides explain why your plan type matters. These guides do not promise a retention offer from any company.

Check the next price again when the offer ends. A discount helps only for the orders it covers, so keep comparing after those orders.

Frequently asked questions

Can I ask my weight-loss pharmacy for a retention discount?

Yes. If your repeat price went up after an introductory offer, ask the pharmacy for any discount or different plan you qualify for. Say you are comparing next-order costs. Do not invent a rival quote. Not every pharmacy offers a retention discount.

What should I get in writing before accepting a retention offer?

Get the full amount you pay, which orders the discount covers and the price afterwards. Also get any new minimum term or condition to repay the discount, and whether accepting cancels a cancellation you already asked for.

Is a retention discount better than switching to a new pharmacy?

Not always. A retention discount covers only the orders named in the offer. You are a new customer at every pharmacy you have not used. Compare the retention price with their first-order prices, and add any exit cost before you decide.

Does a pharmacy price match include vouchers and referral discounts?

Not always. A pharmacy price match may not cover every voucher or referral deal. Ask which rival, product, time period and proof count before you rely on a refund.

Can I cancel straight after accepting a retention discount?

A lower next bill does not always mean you can leave straight afterwards. Save the wording of the retention offer and check whether accepting adds a minimum term or cancels a cancellation you already asked for.
