Pending rewards are not guaranteed savings. Even after credit, your pharmacy may still cost more than a new-customer price elsewhere, so compare the final amount you pay. Part of the referral savings handbook (https://pharmacyhopper.co.uk/referral-savings/) · Examples show the arithmetic. They are not live pharmacy prices. ## Pending, earned and available referral credit Only credit you can spend now counts as money. A referral dashboard can show four different things: an invite sent, an order waiting for approval, a reward earned and a reward ready to spend. Do not add these together as money you already have. MedExpress’s referral page (https://www.medexpress.co.uk/referrals) links credit to an eligible approved order being dispatched. MedExpress credits expire after 12 months. This timetable is specific to MedExpress, so read the reward conditions in your own account. For planning, count unearned rewards as £0 in your main budget. You can run a separate “if it arrives” sum. Your next medicine order should not depend on someone else signing up or ordering. ## Can the credit be used on your next order? - Right order: can you use the credit on the service and order you need? - Limits: is there a minimum spend, a cap per order or an excluded fee? - Expiry date: will the credit expire before a suitable planned order? - Strings attached: does spending the credit tie you into another commitment? - Other offers: does the credit combine with the offer you otherwise qualify for? Not every scheme has every limit. Count only the amount the pharmacy confirms you can use. ## Worked example: £40 credit against a cheaper pharmacy WORKED EXAMPLE · INVENTED FIGURES You have £40 credit. Your current pharmacy quotes £220 for the next order, so you pay £180 after credit. A suitable equivalent elsewhere costs £155. Spending your “free” £40 still leaves you paying £25 more. If the current quote were £180 before credit, you would pay £140. That is £15 below the £155 alternative. The same £40 balance leads to a different decision because the quote underneath changed. ## Use a referral link at a pharmacy you have not used A referral link is worth using for a pharmacy you have not used. Referral discounts are for new customers. Chasing codes for the pharmacy you already use wastes your time. The person sharing a link may earn credit when you use it, so compare the final price before you click. Read why switching beats hunting for codes (https://pharmacyhopper.co.uk/guides/switch-pharmacy-every-month/). ## When to let referral credit expire Losing a reward can feel like losing money. Unusable credit takes nothing from your bank account. If spending the credit means an order you do not need, two packs at once or a worse-value plan, letting the credit expire may cost you less. Never bring orders forward, change treatment or push someone else to get a prescription to claim a reward. Your health and the timing of your orders come before a points balance. ## Budget for weight-loss treatment without referrals Budget on the confirmed repeat price you would pay with no referrals. If you cannot afford this price, talk to the pharmacy and compare other options now. A budget built on finding a new referral every month is not a dependable treatment budget. When a usable reward lowers the cost of an order you need, treat the saving as a bonus. Run the same comparison again before the next order. One reward does not make a pharmacy good value for good. No. Pharmacy referral credit counts only when you have earned it, can spend it and it reduces an order you need anyway. Unusable credit takes nothing from your bank account. When does MedExpress referral credit expire? MedExpress’s referral page says credits expire after 12 months, and credit is tied to an eligible approved order being dispatched. Other pharmacies set their own rules, so check the conditions in your account. Should I stay with a pharmacy to use my referral credit? Only if the final amount after credit is cheaper. In an invented example, £40 credit on a £220 quote leaves £180 to pay, which is still £25 more than a £155 equivalent elsewhere. Should I count pending referral rewards in my budget? No. Count unearned referral rewards as £0 in your main budget. Pending rewards are not guaranteed savings, and your next medicine order should not depend on someone else signing up or ordering. Should I use a referral link at a pharmacy I already use? Usually not. Referral discounts are for new customers, so chasing a code for your current pharmacy wastes time. Use a referral link for a pharmacy you have not used, and check the final price first. ## Sources Links checked on 6 October 2026.
